π Position Title: WASH Assistant
Department: Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
Location: Field Office β East Darfur , Sudan
Reports To: WASH Officer / Project Manager
Contract Type: Full-time
π§ Purpose of the Role
The WASH Assistant supports the implementation of water, sanitation, and hygiene activities to improve community health and resilience. This role ensures that ARCβs WASH interventions meet humanitarian standards and respond effectively to the needs of vulnerable populations.
π οΈ Key Responsibilities
Community Mobilization β Engage communities in WASH projects through awareness sessions, hygiene promotion, and participatory planning.
Water Supply Support β Assist in the construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance of water points, boreholes, and distribution systems.
Sanitation Infrastructure β Support the building and upkeep of latrines, waste disposal systems, and drainage facilities.
Hygiene Promotion β Conduct hygiene education campaigns, distribute hygiene kits, and monitor behavioral change.
Monitoring and Reporting β Collect field data, prepare daily activity reports, and share feedback with the WASH Officer.
Coordination β Collaborate with local authorities, community leaders, and other humanitarian actors to ensure integrated service delivery.
Safety and Compliance β Adhere to ARCβs safety, protection, and environmental standards in all WASH activities.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
Diploma or Bachelorβs degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Health, Public Health, or related field.
Minimum 1β2 years of experience in WASH programs within humanitarian or development settings.
Knowledge of Sphere Standards and WASH cluster guidelines.
Strong communication and community engagement skills.
Ability to work under pressure and in remote field conditions.
Fluency in English and Arabic preferred.
