This integrated multi-sectoral project—led by ALIGHT in partnership with AAO, ARC, AMVO, and World Vision International (WVI)—targets critical humanitarian needs in Ad Du’ayn, Al Firdous, and Yassin localities in East Darfur. Funded through the 2025 Sudan Humanitarian Fund (SHF) Standard Allocation, the 12-month project aims to reach IDPs and host communities affected by conflict, displacement, food insecurity, and disease outbreaks. It contributes to HRP Strategic Objectives 1 and 3 by delivering lifesaving assistance and restoring access to essential services.
Aligned with the Nutrition Cluster and HRP SO1, ALIGHT and WVI will scale up lifesaving nutrition services in Yassin for children under five and pregnant and breastfeeding women (PBW). Services will use the Community Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) approach, including: 4 OTPs and 1 SC run by ALIGHT, 2 OTPs and 5 mobile OTPs by WVI, 4 TSFP sites by ALIGHT, micronutrient supplementation, IYCF counseling, and MSGs. The response targets 55,532 individuals (24,376 women, 16,777 girls, 500 men, 13,879 boys), aiming to reduce malnutrition and related mortality.
In Ad Du’ayn, the consortium will address NFI/Shelter needs in line with cluster and HRP priorities. Vulnerable households will receive NFIs (hygiene kits, kitchen sets, bedding, blankets, and shelter repair items) and shelter support. Activities will incorporate AGD principles, reduce exposure to health risks, and support safe living conditions. Environmentally conscious methods and community engagement will enhance relevance and sustainability.
To support Protection Cluster goals, ALIGHT, AMVO, and WVI will deliver a child protection response in East Darfur. This includes case management, family tracing and reunification (FTR), alternative care, and MHPSS via PFA, counseling, recreational activities, and life skills sessions. Community structures and referral pathways will be strengthened, and awareness campaigns will address GBV, mine risk, and child separation. Child-friendly spaces (CFS) will be rehabilitated or established. The intervention will reach 3,021 individuals (865 girls, 895 boys, 825 women, 445 men).
General protection efforts will support 26,782 people (6,731 women, 6,831 girls, 6,619 men, 6,601 boys) through community-based protection committees (CBPCs), support for PSNs, referral mechanisms, and awareness campaigns. Capacity building for service providers and regular protection assessments will strengthen case management and ensure timely response to protection concerns.
The WASH component, implemented by ARCO and WVI, contributes to the WASH Cluster and HRP SO1 by improving access to safe, gender- and climate-sensitive water, sanitation, and hygiene services in Yassin and Ad Du’ayn. Activities include rehabilitation and solarization of water yards, latrine construction, AquaTab distribution, cholera response, and hygiene promotion. Community ownership will be supported through WASH committees and training. This component targets 79,302 individuals (20,700 women, 23,191 girls, 16,112 men, 19,299 boys).
By combining lifesaving interventions with system strengthening and resilience building, the project aims to support 164,637 crisis-affected individuals with coordinated, timely, and principled humanitarian assistance.
